Poetry Projects & Identity

I am so proud of your inquiry into identity this month, and exploration of themes in life that are valuable to you as a person!

The poetry project theme that you have chosen to showcase your poetry, analysis and explication is a major project that involves some effort and lots of fun and creativity as you make it personal and meaningful.

Please click on your class link to the right, to get more detail info as you work through the various sections of the project, for help on I statements, personal responses, and criticial interpretation paragraphs.

Remember, one can BE A SONG that you connect with and have chosen to include, as well as one piece of poetry written by you:)

Excited to see all the projects soon!

INQUIRY INTO IDENTITY THIS TERM!

WELCOME to the Crossroads Co- op where we are going to be exploring the theme of identity cross curricularly...in the courses Comm. 12, First Nations studies 12, Career Explorations 12 and Work experience 12!

I know that you will gain a better understanding of yourself as a learner, person, and future working adult in this next few months...it is a valuable process to share with each other and reflect on our growth personally! We will look at First Nations Peoples and their LOSS of identity in many cases, and relate to our experiences.

I'm eager to also let you know that this fulfills the BC curriculum NEW Core competencies also. In the area of Personal and Social Competence, you as students are to be engaged in deep learning and life long learning in PERSONAL AND SOCIAL COMPETENCE:

"Positive and Personal and Cultural Identity involves the awareness, understanding and appreciation of all the facets that contribute to a healthy sense of oneself. In includes awareness and understanding of one's family background, heritage, language(s), beliefs, and perspective, and a sense of place:) (BC MINISTRY OF EDUCATION DRAFT CURRICULUM WEBSITE)

The first of the major projects in our ongoing inquiry into identity is the WHERE IM FROM poems you composed. I am eager to share these with each other in class, and to learn more about how we are all more connected than we think!

Be prepared to share lots, get personal, and most importantly make room in your heart for growth and compassion as you learn about each other:)
